Laser technology is the gold standard in laser resurfacing. It can dramatically improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, sun spots, and other damage on the skin. While removing sun damage it stimulates the formation of new and healthy skin and new collagen. This provides greater elasticity and support which results in the appearance of more youthful, firmer, tighter skin. Your skin will not only look healthier, it will be healthier. Significant results are visible with just one treatment. Compared to older CO2 lasers, ActiveFX has much less downtime and aftercare.
DeepFX CO2 Laser technology is another option for patients with significantly damaged skin. It penetrates to the lower part of the collagen layer to repair deep lines and wrinkles, acne scars and scars from surgery or trauma. Effective as a standalone treatment, DeepFX can also work in combination with ActiveFX (referred to as TotalFX) to achieve optimal results.
The Active and Deep FX procedures utilize fractional laser technology, whereby only a fraction of your skin is affected, leaving tiny gaps or “bridges” of untouched skin. As a result of this innovative technique, healing is much faster, allowing you to quickly return to regular life activities.
To determine which approach is suitable for your skin, schedule a complimentary consultation to pinpoint your specific needs. Whether you opt for ActiveFX, DeepFX or TotalFX, each procedure is performed in the comfort of our laser suite with both oral sedation and topical anesthetics. The option to do the procedure under general anesthesia is also available for an added fee. The procedure typically takes 60 – 180 minutes and once complete, patients will experience a sensation similar to a sunburn. At a pre-operative appointment our staff will spend extensive time with you to explain how to take care of the skin during the recovery process.
“FX” is the collective name for the different treatments using the UltraPulse FX laser from Lumenis. The UltraPulse FX is utilized for a variety of treatments. They are classified using names that really are just an indicator of the settings used to achieve the desired results.
The fractional procedures performed using the UltraPulse FX ablate discrete columns of tissue, deposit heat and promote regeneration throughout the underlying layers of the skin. The ActiveFX, DeepFX, and TotalFX fractional laser treatments are single-pass procedures that ensure even coverage and eliminate the possibility of overlap.
Patient’s typically have one week of social downtime after the CO2 laser skin resurfacing procedure. During this time the treated areas turn brown and begin to peel. Moisture in the form of Vaseline or Aquaphor must be applied to the treated areas until the brown skin has completely peeled. The skin can remain pink for anywhere from two weeks up to one month and in some cases even longer. Friends and family may think you have a mild sunburn several weeks after the procedure.
Mild redness or erythema of the treated area is normal for about 4- 8 weeks following the procedure. This can be effectively concealed by makeup once the skin has healed, typically after 7 – 10 days. In some cases, redness may be prolonged for several months or be more pronounced than normal. Patients may experience changes in skin pigmentation which include hyperpigmentation (increased pigmentation) and hypopigmentation (decreased pigmentation). Hyperpigmentation is an irritating complication, but will eventually clear up in most all affected patients. It rarely occurs in people with fair skin and in patients who avoid sun exposure for several weeks after their resurfacing procedure. Hypopigmentation is a rare complication that may occur as late as six months after the procedure. These and other rare but possible complication’s will be discussed at your pre-operative appointment and detailed in your consent form.
Thermage is a safe, non-invasive, no downtime, single treatment, cosmetic procedure that is clinically proven to tighten, contour and rejuvenate skin to help naturally restore a more youthful appearance. Immediate results are visible and continue to improve for up to six months. The Thermage procedure is fast and easy, and requires no downtime from normal activities. Unlike lasers, the procedure can be performed on patients of all skin color. Our skin has three layers: the top layer called the epidermis, the collagen-rich dermis and the subcutaneous layer of fat and collagen fibers. Collagen is the protein that gives the skin its suppleness. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen resulting in wrinkles and slackness. The Thermage procedure uses patented radio-frequency technology to heat the dermis and the underlying tissue causing the collagen to tighten; this process, while stimulating the production of new collagen, also assists in the reduced deterioration of your current collagen. To minimize any discomfort to the patient, the outer layer or epidermis is kept cool in order to protect it. During the treatment, patients feel heat with each energy pulse followed by a sensation of cold. Your skin will look smoother after only one Thermage treatment. Thermage may be used to tighten skin on the face, around the eyes, on the arms, legs, thighs, buttocks, stomach and hands. It may also be recommended to help reduce the appearance of cellulite.
The procedure works by heating deep collagen fibers in the skin and underlying tissue. This deep uniform heating action causes the deep structures in the skin and underlying tissue to immediately tighten. Over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced to further tighten skin and renew facial contours.
The Thermage procedure is a completely non-invasive, safe treatment that is performed only in a doctor’s office. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, the procedure may take as little as 20 minutes or up to three hours.
Thermage produces results in just one treatment for the majority of patients. The treating doctor will determine the course of treatment that is right for each patient, based on the patient’s needs and goals.
Immediate results are visible, and improve over time. Measurable tightening and contouring improvements appear gradually over a two to six month time period following a single treatment session.
The patient experiences a brief, deep heating sensation as energy is delivered to the skin and underlying tissue. This deep heating sensation is an indication that collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. Patient feedback on the level of heat sensation experienced during the procedure will help guide the provider to balance procedural comfort with maximum results. The provider may offer light pain medications prior to treatment to minimize sensation.
No. Unlike surgery, there is no pre-procedure preparation, such as blood work or fasting required. One can return to regular activities immediately following treatment and there is no special care after treatment. Some patients exhibit a temporary redness or minor swelling after treatment, this usually resolves within 24 hours. Good skin care and sunscreens are recommended as part of your regular skin care regimen. The only signs of treatment are naturally smoother, younger, and healthier skin.
Thermage immediately tightens existing collagen and stimulates new natural collagen production for up to six months following the treatment. Unpublished reports by experienced cosmetic doctors indicate that results may last for 3 or more years and are based on the patient’s natural aging process.
Thermage has an excellent safety record. With over 190,000 estimated worldwide patient treatments to date the reported incidence of side effects is less than 0.4%. The most frequently reported incidents are classified as swelling, redness, bumps, and blisters on or around the treated area. These side effects have disappeared in a few days or weeks. A rare (<0.11%) but longer lasting side effect described as a surface irregularity has also been reported. Consult with your physician regarding this and any other questions you may have on the safety record of the Thermage procedure.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a revolutionary treatment for reversing the effects of facial wrinkles like crow’s feet, worry lines and laugh lines. These wrinkles, referred to as dynamic wrinkles, can be treated by injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic into the tiny facial muscles that cause them. Prior to treatment, we will evaluate your medical history in order to better understand your overall health. We will conduct a complete examination of your eyes to determine the most effective injection sites. We will also discuss any issues or concerns that you may have. On the day of treatment, the areas to be treated will be marked and digital photographs will be taken so that the amount of improvement can be determined after the procedure. Anesthesia is not necessary because the procedure is virtually painless and you will feel just a very small sting during the injections. Though patients may experience some slight bruising around the injection site after treatment, this quickly fades and all normal activities may be resumed immediately.
LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for improving inadequate eyelashes, growing them longer, thicker and darker. LATISSE® makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. LATISSE® is an effective, a once-a-day treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes. As the treatment progresses, you’ll first begin to see changes in length. Then, gradually, you’ll notice more thickness and darkness in your lashes. Patients in a clinical trial saw results in as few as 8 weeks with full results after 12 to 16 weeks.
Once you begin, you must continue applying the topical solution each night and follow the directions for best results. If you stop using LATISSE® at any time, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
LATISSE® may have some side effects, the most common of which are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. These were reported in approximately 4% of patients. Other less common side effects typically occur on the skin close to where LATISSE® is applied, or in the eyes. These include eyelid skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids. Eyelid skin darkening is a result of increased melanin in the skin, making your eyelid skin look a little darker close to where the solution is applied to the skin. This is expected to reverse after several weeks to months if you decide to stop using the product.
GentleWaves®, a non invasive, non thermal technology called Photomodulation, utilizes low intensity light therapy to reduce wrinkles, pore size and pigmentation producing smoother, more youthful looking skin. GentleWaves® treatments are painless and there is no downtime. A very popular application is its ability to aid in the reduction of sunburns in less than 2 minutes.
GentleWaves® LED Photomodulation technology is the interaction of light delivered through LED’s (light emitting diodes) to activate skin cells causing them to produce collagen. This technology converts light energy within the cells, similar to the way photosynthesis takes sunlight and turns it into food energy in plants. GentleWaves® technology offers a totally natural, non-invasive method of skin rejuvenation to reduce the visible signs of aging.
The GentleWaves® LED treatment takes less than one minute.
No. Unlike lasers, GentleWaves® is non-thermal and patients are reporting no pain associated with the treatments.
Yes, GentleWaves® can be administered alone or in conjunction with other treatments. Physicians have found GentleWaves® to be highly complimentary with other skin care treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers, and skin rejuvenating lasers.
The K-Laser uses “photobiomodulation” which is the use of specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. The treatments are pain free and use laser energy to draw water, oxygen and nutrients into the damaged area being treated. This creates an optimal environment for healing. The laser is designed to reduce inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain.
There is very little sensation during a treatment. You may feel a mild, soothing warmth or tingling in the area being treated.
Occasionally some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days as the healing response is more active after treatment.
A typical treatment is 3 – 9 minutes long depending on the size of the area being treated.
Studies have shown K-Laser therapy helpful with all of the following:
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow)
Repetitive Stress Injuries
Shoulder, Back, and Knee Pain
Herpes Zoster (Shingles)
Auto and Work Related Injuries
Dysport®, like Botox is a non-surgical injection used to reduce or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet near the eyes by temporarily blocking the nerve impulses of the underlying muscles. Though Dysport® was approved for use in the United States in spring of 2009, it has a history of use in other countries since 1991. Prior to treatment, we will evaluate your medical history in order to better understand your overall health. We will conduct a complete examination of your eyes to determine the most effective injection sites and discuss any issues or concerns that you may have. On the day of treatment the areas to be treated will be marked and digital photographs will be taken so that the amount of improvement can be determined after the procedure. Anesthesia is not necessary because the procedure is virtually painless and you will feel just a very small sting during the injections. Though patients may experience some slight bruising around the injection site after treatment, this quickly fades and all normal activities may be resumed immediately.

RADIESSE® an FDA approved, bio-compatible, non-toxic, non-allergenic filler made of calcium-based micro spheres that are suspended in a water-based gel. Radiesse reduces the appearance of wrinkles and skin folds around the mouth and nose, and helps to fill in scars. RADIESSE®is injected into the skin through a minimally invasive procedure which allows the microspheres to be safely and naturally absorbed into the body. The body is thus stimulated to produce new collagen whereby the appearance of wrinkles is reduced and facial volume is improved for a natural look that lasts. As compared with other dermal fillers, RADIESSE® requires less frequent injections as it can last for a year or more.
Asclera® is a sclerosing agent that is injected into the vein. It works by damaging the cells lining the inside of blood vessels. This causes blood platelets to attach to the lining of the vessels; eventually, cellular debris and platelets cause the blood vessel to clot. Over time, the clotted vein will be replaced with tissue. Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive technique widely used in cosmetology and aesthetic medicine to diminish the appearance of veins. A typical sclerotherapy session lasts 15 to 45 minutes.
Skin Cancer is the leading reported form of cancer worldwide, with over one million cases diagnosed each year. Skin cancer is most prevalent on exposed areas of skin like the scalp, ears, face and hands but can affect any part of the body. Because of this frequent screenings are essential to catching and removing potentially dangerous lesions. If you have a suspicious skin growth or lesion it is important to consult with a plastic surgeon or dermatologist to understand your options.
Microscopic evaluation of a tissue sample must be done to diagnose your type of skin cancer.
- Lesions on the skin can be benign such as nevi (moles) or skin tags. Skin cancer is a malignant lesion which may spread through the body.
- Scaly lesions called squamous cell carcinoma are growths of the uppermost portion of the skin, or epidermis.
- Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of cancer and it also occurs in the epidermis. These growths are typically round and pearly or darkly pigmented.
- Melanoma may be distinguished by its pigmented blackish or brownish coloration and irregular and ill-defined borders. This is the most serious form of skin cancer as it occurs in the deepest portion of the epidermis making it the most likely form to spread quickly in the skin and to other parts of the body.
- There are other rare types of cancers on the skin.
There are many ways to remove skin cancer. The goal of a plastic surgeon is always minimal disfigurement to your appearance. Surgical excision may be done to cut the lesion from the skin if it is a small contained lesion. In some cases skin cancer can be much like an iceberg where what you see on the surface is only a small portion of the growth. In these cases, a specialized technique called “Mohs surgery” may be recommended. Your plastic surgeon or dermatologist may also order a “frozen section” whereby the cancerous lesion is removed and microscopically examined prior to wound closure to ensure all cancerous cells have been removed. Once the cancer is removed your wound will be closed. In some cases reconstruction may be necessary using a local flap of nearby healthy skin. When local tissue cannot be used for reconstruction, a free flap may be recommended if the resulting defect of the cancer removal is broad, large or deep. A free flap requires microsurgery to reconstruct the skin cancer site using skin and possible fat and muscle from other areas of the body. If supporting structures are affected, bone or cartilage grafts may also be necessary.
